Royal Armouries releases impressive collection of over 140,000 objects online

Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour. Our work with the collections team in Leeds has culminated in the release of an impressive 140,000 objects online, enriched by 20,000 very high resolution images and detailed descriptions of the items and their origins. The collections pull together a catalogue of items which are physically dispersed around the world, at one of the museum's three sites or on loan to other cultural venues.

Monitor Local beta is released to HEIs

July 15th saw the first offical release of Jisc's Monitor Local system to UK higher education institutions taking part in the pilot. The final release is planned for September this year. In the meantime institutions can get to grips with the application, ready to hit the ground running. Pilot users will also benefit from opportunities to influence development of features in future project phases.

New open source Library Services Platform (LSP)

K-Int is participating in an initiative to develop a radically new suite of software aimed at academic libraries worldwide.  Rather than a monolithic product, like the current crop of library managment systems, the platform is being modelled as a flexible, modular suite of microservices, each developed to fulfill a particular function and to integrate both with other components within the new suite and with existing library product through a set of open APIs.

Collections Information Integration Middleware (CIIM)

Collections Information Integration Middleware (CIIM, pronounced “sim”) is our in-house modular suite of software which sits between institutional data sources (such as collections management systems, library systems, archives and DAMS) and a range of publication end points (such as the institution's online web presence or an in-gallery display).  The system is currently used by a number of large institutions including:

Our very own Rob Tice was invited by the Elasticsearch London user group to talk about our work on the Historical Texts platform. He willingly obliged with a presentation about how we used Elasticsearch to represent large volumes of complexly structured metadata.

New year, new website for the Smart Cities Partnership

January 2015 sees the launch of a new website for the Smart Cities Partnership. Built on the popular open source content management system Drupal, the site puts sophisticated yet easy to use features into the hands of the Partnership for the creation and management of content.

Version 3 of the Global Open Knowledge Base Released as Production

This week sees the release of GOKb version 3 (Link to Git Project) to the live Kuali Servers featuring substantially improved workflows and refine integration.

Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service collections online launch

The new Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service collections online site was launched on July 31st. It has been built by Gooii Ltd and Knowledge Integration using the CIIM software platform and features the first CIIM integration with the MODES collections management system.
